Walkerton Utilities


The Walkerton Utility Department is seeking a hardworking, self-motivated individual to join our team. This full-time position will work primarily with the Water and Electric Departments, but the Utility team also includes work with the Street and Wastewater Departments. The person hired will receive on-the-job training to learn basic lineman tasks in the distribution of electric power, line maintenance and constructions. Duties will also include learning operational skills in water treatment and distribution, and wastewater treatment and collection.
Duties and responsibilities:
  • With supervision, they will learn to repair, construct and maintain overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Work will include setting new poles, hanging crossarms, stringing new wire or maintaining old wire, installing guy wire and anchors. New construction of single phase and three phase power lines.
  • Tree cutting, trimming of power lines. Safe and proper operations of wood chipping machines.
  • Installation and maintenance of transformers, security lights, single and three phase electric meters.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and at all hours of the day and night.
  • Learn to climb and work from wood poles.
  • Operate all equipment including bucket trucks, digger/derrick, tractor/ backhoe, excavator, skid-steer, trencher, jackhammer, wood chipper, leaf vacuum, vactor-vacuum truck, snow plows, lawn mowers, chainsaws and other smaller tools and hand tools.
  • Properly operate and inspect water treatment plant, including pump operation and maintenance.
  • Learn to be sufficient in daily operation and testing of water samples and distribution system samples. Perform required daily operational tasks, on weekends and holidays.
  • Learn to perform daily and weekly operational and testing requirements of the Wastewater treatment facility. Work closely with current operational team to learn various aspects of the wastewater system.
  • Attend training sessions as required including off site, half day, full day or week-long Utility training sessions in various locations in the Mid-west.
  • Install water services, repair water leaks.
  • Maintain water distribution system, meters, valves, and hydrants
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications:
  • Resident of the United States
  • High School diploma, or GED required.
  • A valid driver’s license. A Class “B” CDL license is required to be obtained within the first 180 calendar days of date of hire.
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work 40’-55’ in the air, or in trenches below ground level.
  • Able to work in manholes, or confined spaces.
  • Capable of lifting 50-100 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Understand that this position includes call outs on nights, weekends and/or holiday’s for emergency repairs as needed.
  • Follow OSHA regulations, safety requirements and work safely in a Team environment.

Walkerton Parks & Recreation

Full-Time Maintenance Staff
We seek a dedicated, hardworking Full-Time Parks Maintenance Staff to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the upkeep and beautifying our public parks and recreational areas. This role involves various tasks including landscaping, cleaning, and minor repairs to ensure that our parks are safe, clean, and enjoyable for the community. The Parks Maintenance Staff will work under the supervision of the Parks Superintendent and will collaborate with other team members to complete projects efficiently.
This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. The successful candidate will have experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field, and will be committed to maintaining the highest park maintenance standards. Key responsibilities include mowing lawns, trimming trees and shrubs, planting flowers, picking up litter, and maintaining park facilities such as restrooms, playgrounds, Baseball and Soccer Fields, Splashpad etc. The Parks Maintenance Staff will also operate and maintain various tools and equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers. Additionally, the role may involve assisting with special events and community programs held in the parks.
This is a physically demanding job that requires the ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks. Responsibilities
Mow lawns and trim edges around walkways, flower beds, and walls. Plant and maintain flower beds, trees, and shrubs. Pick up litter and empty trash receptacles. Clean and maintain park facilities, including restrooms and playgrounds. Perform minor repairs on park equipment and structures. Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers. Assist with the setup and teardown of special events and community programs. Monitor and report any safety hazards or maintenance issues. Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides as needed. Irrigate lawns, trees, and plants using manual and automated systems. Maintain walking paths and trails by removing debris and repairing surfaces. Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently. Follow all safety guidelines and procedures. Provide excellent customer service to park visitors. Assist with snow removal and other seasonal tasks. Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used. Attend training sessions and meetings as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the Parks Manager.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field. Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment. Strong work ethic and attention to detail. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Physical stamina to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Basic knowledge of plant care and maintenance. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations. Ability to handle and apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides safely. Basic repair and maintenance skills. Customer service experience is a plus. Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation. Willingness to attend training sessions and obtain necessary certifications. Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of park maintenance.

WALKERTON LINCOLN FIRE TERRITORY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

ADVANCED EMT / part-time and full-time
SALARY RANGE: $40,198/yr to $48,297/yr. FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
The primary focus of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
This position reports to an EMS Director. Advanced EMTs are accountable for responding to all assigned calls in the most appropriate and efficient manner, providing the highest standards of patient care while providing a safe and hazard-free environment. The Advanced EMT contributes to overall patient care in the areas of patient assessment, treatment, packaging, and transport.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Prompt and regular attendance at work. Provide quality patient care utilizing approved medical protocols. Assess and treat with appropriate techniques (resources and equipment), any medical situation while maintaining the highest standard of patient care and professionalism according to current company standards. Must maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times in accordance with the Policy and Procedures. Maintain the ambulance and equipment in a clean, organized, and response-ready mode. Complete all patient care reports for each response with appropriate and accurate patient care documentation and billing information. Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other individuals within the community and EMS system. Responsible for adhering to all policies and procedures provided in the Policy and Procedures Handbook (PPH). Executes duties according to WLFT Emergency Services protocols under the direction of the WLFT EMS Director. Responsible for complying with all local, state, and federal laws (i.e. HIPAA and OSHA). Responsible for maintaining current national and state certifications. Must attend all mandatory educational trainings and quality assurance sessions. Performs other such duties as may be required.
Minimum Qualifications: Current AEMT certification as an Advanced EMT. EMS Driver Certification Must be at least 18 years of age.
Physical Requirements: The employee is regularly required to use hands to feel or handle; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is required to frequently stand and walk. The employee is required to sit, climb and balance; step, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or carry a minimum of 140 pounds up to 200 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment: The employee works outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and /or exposure to blood/body fluids. Respirator usage is required, and the employee may be exposed to fumes/odors, can work extended periods of time, and endure temperature variations. The employee will work with others, have face-to-face contact with others, be exposed to noise, and operate mechanical and electrical equipment. The employee is assigned shift work and performs duties frequently related to a mobile environment while being in confined areas at times.
